With the prices of Blu-ray players dropping, now is definitely the time to buy one. The issue of where you’re going to keep it now comes into play. Chances are your entertainment center already is filled to capacity with a DVD player, cable box and one or two video game consoles. As long as you’re going high-def with a brand new Blu-ray, why not upgrade your entire entertainment center? Here are some helpful tips on finding the perfect TV stand to accommodate your Blu-ray device.

How Much Space Do You Have?:Depending on how many other devices you have connecting to your TV right now, chances are that you’re going to need a TV stand with a considerable amount of storage space. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to purchase a gargantuan TV stand. In fact, you’d be surprised at the amount of storage space some of the more modestly-sized TV stands have. Corner TV stands are a great option for you if you have limited space to work with or an unusually shaped room. Corner TV stands are specifically designed to fit snuggly in the corner of a room, and most have plenty of shelving for your various devices. Chatham Furniture makes some great hardwood corner TV stands that are high quality and great to look at! Bush Furniture makes some more affordable and modern-looking options for you to consider. Make sure you measure your space before shopping for a TV Stand.

How Much Storage Space Do You Need?:So if you have a cable box, DVD player, Blu-ray player and a video game console, you’ll at least 4 different shelves for your various pieces of equipment. First off, I highly recommend removing any video games, DVDs and CDs and buying a simple multimedia storage rack of some kind to keep this stuff. You can get one for pretty cheap and they are generally pretty easy to install. This will instantly free up some space for additional equipment. If you still need more space, I suggest upgrading to a bigger TV stand or possibly even going all out and getting an entertainment center of some kind. Entertainment centers are bigger but as a result they have a lot more storage space available. I also recommend looking into some sort of wall-mounted storage space for your Blu-ray player. If you don’t have a flat panel TV, Sanus makes a TV shelf that you install to the top of your television set, giving you more space. Worst case scenario, replace your DVD player with your Blu-ray and move the DVD player to another television in your house.

Style and Substance:TV stands are available in a variety of styles and finishes to match your home decor. If your TV room has a more traditional feel you can buy a traditional-looking TV stand that will blend in perfectly. I recommend choosing a TV stand with a cabinet, that way you don’t have to display all of your gadgets. If you prefer a more modern aesthetic, you can opt for a chic and stylish metal TV stand. Modern TV stands tend to be more contoured and sleek-looking, also more expensive. If you’re on a budget, no problem at all. There are plenty of great looking TV stands available at affordable prices. Choosing a TV stand with a nice wood veneer is a great option if you’re looking to create a casual look for your media room.

Finally an alternative to paying the expensive costs of satellite or cable TV has become available on the market. Satellite TV on your PC is quickly becoming a more common and inexpensive way to watch satellite TV without paying the expensive monthly costs.

How is this possible? The TV stations need a way to get their shows to the consumers so they are forced to pay the cable and satellite companies huge marketing dollars.

With satellite TV for your PC the stations are essentially bypassing the middle men and now have the ability to send the television programs straight to the consumer via the Internet.

What will I need to take advantage of watching satellite TV on my computer?

All you will need is the inexpensive software compatible with your computer. Usually only a one-time fee is required for the software and most windows-based software is simple to install.

For more information be sure to checkout extensive reviews on the particular software before deciding to purchase.

Will I be able to hook my PC to my TV to watch programs?

The answer is yes, although you may need to consult the manufacturer for your PC and TV dependent upon the model and year. One of the easiest ways is to purchase a simple PC-to-TV converter which is connected to the VGA port of your computer. The converter will typically have a USB connection needed to get power from the computer.
Be aware there are many different ways to connect your PC to TV which are very involved and cannot be covered in the scope of this article.

What type of channels will I be able to watch with Satellite TV and PC software?

Of course this is dependent upon what software you will be using, but the better software programs offer at least over 3000 channels and offer channels from many different countries. The best programs offer a wide variety of programs such as Sports, ESPN, news channels including most major news stations such as CNN and BBC news, religious channels, TV sitcoms and much more.

With the right software you will receive many channels from other countries. This makes a great way to practice learning a different language and to learn about other cultures.

Also the best software will allow you to listen to radio channels from many different countries, allowing you to experience the flavor of music from many different cultures.

Therefore, be sure to read a number of reviews before making your decision in order to get the right product for you.

More links & resources (these are not our sites. Please note that a lot of Satellite TV on PC sites will review a product as good to try & get you to buy it - they then get commission)

Today we have a guest article, about how to save money with HDTV:

My roommate is just as apotropaic to have a roommate who has provided him with a great HDTV to view during our late nights of studying or partying, whichever the circumstance may be at the moment.

The only problem I found was that I couldn’t afford the cable monthly rate for high definition channels.

My parents told me if they bought me the TV, I would have to handle the expenditure of receiving the high definition channels, if I so prefer. Of course, I want high quality image, why wouldn’t I?

I was researching a project one night and drifted off onto some sites talking about antennas. I couldn’t believe what I was reading because it was like I had struck gold or something. It was that major.

The antennas furnish you with signals so you don’t have to use your cable provider to receive the signals. I thought this was outstanding but I didn’t really know where I would put an antenna in a dorm area.

I started thinking about it and kept reading online. Eventually, I found something that would succeed in my room. There is an high definition picture frame. Weird, I know.

You can put a picture in the frame, hang it on your wall and it receives a signal for high quality channels. I bought it and tried it out. It wasn’t pricey at all so I didn’t have to worry about dishing a large chunk out of my piggy bank.

I am pleased that I did decide to buy it because I am so joyful with it and needed to let everyone know it, especially other college students. We don’t have a lot of money but we still deserve to have a pleasant television to see.

We work hard and need a stress release. Now my roommate and I possess many of the best channels available now. We spend way too much time in front of my television but it’s okay.

Another thing I figured out while doing my search is that after February 17, 2009, I wouldn’t be able to watch my television without the high definition service from my cable Co. because all broadcasters will be required to transmit out these signals only.

Now, I am all set for the switch and can keep to watch with no problems now and in the future.

Many people are in pursuing of HDTV because it is considered one of the greatest inventions. It provides a cinema like visual experience making people go crazy about this fuzz. It is a revolutionary product that kicks away the standard television.

The most significant feature of the HDTV is the clarity of the picture. With a matching sound system, there is no other place you would want to watch than your on living room. A HDTV contains 1100 lines in comparison to only 500 in a normal TV set. While you can possibly see the lines in a normal TV set, you will likely not detect the lines in an HDTV set.

When it comes to choices of HDTV, there are many to choose from. There is the traditional projection tvs, the HD flat panel tvs and HD micro display. The first of the HDTV, the traditional projection will give you a larger screen at a lower price. However, this equipment is bulky and has a thinner viewing angle than other forms of HDTV. Next, is HD flat panel HDTV. This HDTV is thin and lighter and is a type of HDTV that can hang on a wall. These HDTV provides the widest viewing angle and the highest contrast. This however, means that the price tag is much higher. The third one is the advance micro displays. These HDTV are HD ready and provide a big viewing angle, quality contrast, and have replaceable light sources. Plus, it is lightweight.

All these signs of technology improvement will signify that HDTV will soon become the common viewing companion for every household in the world in the coming future.

The satellite TV is the new revolution in viewing experience due to the evolution in TV. One can now access countless of channels and program based on their preferences. Since the introduction of satellite TV, superb quality audio and visual can be broadcast in HDTV. Combining the satellite TV and the beauty and power of HDTV, you will have the ideal entertainment for everyone in your family right in your living room. No matter what programs you choose, you will enjoy the crystal clear pictures from your HDTV. Furthermore, satellite TV gives you endless variety of networks for you to choose from. All this combine to be the perfect unwind and relaxation activity for you family to enjoy.

With the recent emergence Digital Recording feature (DVR), you can record your favorite shows. You can them see them over and over again. The potential is just extremely limitless. This the power of the HDTV and DVR combine. This will eave completely in control of what you want to watch.

We have noticed that there is a lot of confusion about blu-ray (Blue-ray) spelling. Almost 50% of all Blu-ray searches in Google are done with Blue-ray or Blueray. And within the misspelled searches, Blue-ray is about 80% and Blueray is the other 20%. The numbers from Overture for july are 26708 searches for Blu-ray compared to 8618 for Blue-ray and 1082 for Bluray.

It was a choice made by the Blu-ray disc association to remove the “e” from blue-ray to be able to have a trademark on it. “Blue-ray disc” or “Blueray disc” would have not been so easy. We are wondering if people are searching half the time with “Blue-ray players” or “Blue-ray movies” or even worse “HD DVD vs. Blue-ray”, if they are going to find what they are looking for? They will find results talking about blu-ray, but it’s going to be limited because of the pollution done by sites that have misspelled blu-ray themselves with blue-ray or blueray.

Google and the other search engines can make the translation between “blue-ray and blu-ray” or “blueray and blu-ray” but it is certainly going to hurt the search result. The “did you mean” could have helped but websites writers are doing so much mistakes that there is enough results for “Blue-ray” that the “did you mean” doesn’t pop-up.

An ad by a major retail store in the newspapers last week was announcing the “Samsung Blue-ray player”! Talk about confusing people! All those people that did not knew about the technology are now convinced that the correct spelling is Blue-ray and not Blu-ray. They just run to their computer now and search for Blue-ray and find enough results just like if it was the correct spelling.

Blue-ray may look cool without the “e” but at this point, the only result they have is a major dilution of the internet traffic.

We took a look at the HD DVD camp if they had problems with HDDVD or HDVD. We found those results for july in Overture: 29299 searches for HD DVD against 1527 for HDDVD and only 515 for HDVD. We see that the HD DVD doesn’t have a misspelling problem like the blu-ray camp. We can certainly count that as a bonus for HD DVD in the “HD DVD vs. Blue-ray” war!

Despite the growing popularity of HDTV and the rising sales of HDTV sets, most of the TV content that’s watched on HDTV sets is in standard definition television- the older format that’s been around since the dawn of broadcast TV more than half a century ago. There are two major reasons for this. The most obvious reason is that there are still far more standard def channels than there are HDTV channels. In other words, not everything that every HDTV owner wants to watch has made the transition to HD.

The second reason why most of the TV programming that’s watched on HDTV sets is still standard def is because HDTV programming isn’t nearly as popular as HDTV sets. The evidence for this includes the fact that there are only about half as many households with subscriptions to HDTV programming packages as there are households with HDTV sets. There are several reasons for this. For one thing, HDTV has become something of a status symbol and the HDTV sets are much more evident of this status than having the HDTV programming to watch on them is. Another reason is that HDTV sets have the wide screen aspect ratio that many DVD’s and an increasingly large number of standard definition TV shows are available in. The wider viewing area is a good way to heighten enjoyment of watching TV, and in many ways is more noticeable than the high resolution picture that you get with HDTV. Yet another reason is that modern video game systems like the Xbox 360 and Sony’s Play Station 3 can display their graphics in high def resolutions and take advantage of the 16:9 aspect ratio of HDTV sets.

Despite all of this, many people find standard definition programming relatively unsatisfying on HDTV sets. There are several reasons for this. For one thing, the analog format that a lot of standard definition TV still comes in, isn’t completely compatible with a lot of HDTV sets. This causes a worse picture in many ways than if the same programming was just displayed on a standard def screen. Another problem comes from the fact that HDTV screens are simply designed to display more pixels which result in a more detailed picture than you can get from a standard definition TV set or standard def programming. Therefore, the result of displaying standard def programming on such a high def screen is missing pixels which cause the picture to look grainy and generally low quality. This is especially obvious when standard def programming is displayed on a relatively large high def screen.

There is a way to combat this problem though- buy an HDTV set that’s good at rendering standard def programming. There are a variety of sets that are better than average at doing this and they’re made in a variety of technologies. DLP projection TV’s and Plasma screen TV’s can both be good at this, but there are more LCD screen HDTV sets on the market that are well rated for displaying standard def programming than any other type on the market. One thing that will help is getting an HDTV set with a built in up converter that will fill in the absent pixels to make the SD picture look sharper. Barring that, a smaller screen will look better because the gaps in the picture will be harder to see.

In all, this is a problem, but not one that can’t be avoided with a little bit of foresight.

One of the biggest debates you will find on the Internet is the one over which is better out of Plasma Tvs and LCD Tvs. There are people that will argue for both cases in the plasma verus lcd war and in the end it may be down to personal choice. One of the biggest arguments for Plasma screens is the fact they can produce natural dark colours and black where as LCD Tvs are made using a backlight making a very dark black on screen not quite as impressive as with Plasma Tvs.

One of the first things to consider is what is the difference in plasma and lcd and it is entirely down to the way the televisions operate and produce the picture on the screen. LCD Tvs use technology which uses a backlight and plasma Tvs do not.

When considering whats the best to buy you should go into stores and have a look at what you can expect from each. The picture quality will all depend on the source and what you are using. A great example would be if you played a VHS on a plasma and thought it didnt look good, the picture will only be as good as the source so if you put a blu-ray HD player through a 1080p Plasma or LCD screen it should look fantastic. The main sources for HD now are Sky HD, Virgin Media boxes and Playstation 3s which have in built blu-ray technology. HD-DVD was the biggest competitor to Blu-ray but it is technology which is now seen as dying having lost the war to blu-ray when Toshiba stated they would no longer be manufacturing players.

A lot is talked about the plasma versus lcd tv contrast ratio and again this can make a huge difference but a lot can also depend on the set you go for. Cheaper models will not look as good as the better higher priced ones such as Panasonic or Samsung which are currently the leaders in the market. If you are wanting the best quality picture available then it will require that you buy a top range TV that will cost more than the budget Plasma screens now readily available. When you are looking to compare plasma hd display tv with lcd it will again all depend on the source and what Television you have.

There are fantastic LCD and Plasma Screens available and if you are willing to spend the money then you should be able to get a great TV that will satisfy you and introduce you into the world of High Definition.

Once you have had a look in stores you can also use the Internet to look for big screen tv plasma lcd reviews and price comparison websites. If you spend time and effort looking through the Internet then you should be able to find some good deals on the TV sets and save some money. You can also look at user reviews on the Internet to see which TVs are popular and supposed to produce a good picture. When looking for hd tv reviews television plasma lcd it is a good idea to use as many sources as you can find so that you do get a fair overall view of the TV sets and not just the opinion of one or two that could be slightly biased towards Plasma or LCD Tv sets.

There have been a lot of great developments lately in the areas of television, phone, and Internet technology. These developments all have the promise of making the time that we spend on entertainment and communication a lot more productive and enjoyable, so it only makes sense that a company like Time Warner Cable would bundle all three of the best technologies in each category together and offer them for one low monthly fee.

The digital cable TV is a very technically impressive feature. That’s because it can provide literally hundreds of channels of entertainment. You’ll have access to all of your local channels, forty five digital music channels, and an entire library of recent movies all on demand with every programming package. The largest programming packages have over two hundred and seventy five channels that include HDTV programming, all of the best national network cable TV channels around, and extensive movie packages from all of the biggest names in cable movies like Starz, HBO, and Showtime.

Time Warner Cable makes its cable TV service even better by making sure that each of the channels is delivered using a completely digital TV signal. Digital TV from Time Warner is an alternative to the older analog signal format that provides you with a much clearer picture and sound quality than what you’d get from an old fashioned cable TV company. Digital TV also makes it easy for Time Warner to add its own on screen program guide. With the on screen program guide, you’ll be able to find out what’s on and what will be on all of the channels with a few clicks of a remote control. Digital TV also carries plenty of meta information that makes it possible to set up parental controls to keep kids from accessing and watching programming that parents don’t feel is appropriate for the age and maturity levels of their children.

In this information intensive age, High Speed (broad band) Internet is vital when it comes to keeping up with the progress that’s being made on the world wide web. With that in mind Time Warner also offers high speed Internet service with incredibly fast download speeds of up to eight megabytes per second. With Time Warner’s High Speed Internet, you’ll be able to download as much video, music, and software without spending a ton of time sitting at your computers. You can also share your own videos and photographs with the rest of the online community with ease. High speed Internet from Time Warner is the perfect way to get online and make the most out of it.

While digital cable TV and broad band Internet are both impressive technologies, the biggest surprises come in the area of telephone technology. After all, most of us just assume that a phone service is a phone service, at least when we’re talking about land lines. However, Time Warner turns that idea on its head by offering a digital phone service that provides great quality sound, includes many convenient features at no extra charge, and lets you call anywhere in the U.S. and Canada for free. The extra features that are provided for free by Time Warner Digital Phone are many of the same ones that more traditional phone services charge extra for. These services include call waiting, call forwarding, and of course- the ultimate for screening calls- caller ID. All of this means that you can have the convenient features that you rely on everyday and make all of the long distance calls that you want, without having to worry about your bill increasing.

Time Warner Cable also provides the best ways to make the most out of telecommunications in general. Your search for the best provider has come to an end. With the current Time Warner Cable Package Deals, there has never been a better time to switch.

The 52-Inch 1080p Sony Bravia XBR KDL-52XBR4 is the ultimate LCD HDTV. If you want the best picture, this LCD HDTV is the one to get. Yes, the Sony KDL-52XBR4 is more expensive than other brands, but you get what you pay for. The Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 is the Mercedes of LCD HDTVs.

The Motion Flow 120hz refresh rate helps smooth out sports games and action scenes that has been plaguing LCD TVs with their ghosting effect. Although it’s not a significant difference over previous models, it’s there and it’s working. Every little bit of help is welcomed. If there any blurring, it’s usually a source problem like watching low quality video.

Watching HD content on the 52-Inch Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 1080p LCD HDTV is simply amazing. Colors are true and stand out like no TV has ever done. Everything looks 3D and pops out like you’re looking through a window. Is this even possible without 3D glasses? Side by side with any LCD HDTV out there, the Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 takes the cake. The only other LCD HDTV that comes close is the Samsung LNT5271F 52? 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV.

The Samsung does have better blacks, but you can’t even tell. Samsung’s screen is a little reflective to give the picture a look of higher contrast, but the reflection can be annoying especially in a well lit room. The screen on the Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 1080p LCD HDTV has no glare at all and works well in a bright room. The backlight adjusts itself accordingly when in bright or dark rooms. The screen does not distract at all and will constantly amaze your family and friends with its awesome picture.

Once you receive the Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 1080p LCD HDTV, you should turn off the “vivid” setting and switch to something more comfortable to the eyes especially if you’re watching in standard definition. SD quality video will look bad if you don’t. You should also change the screen from “full” to “wide full” when watching SD to give SD content the best display possible. This will fill up the screen instead of having some blank areas on the left and right of the TV.

DVD’s also look good and sometimes even blu-ray-ish. That’s how good this TV is. The best way to watch movies of course is with a Blu-Ray movie. You can’t buy an HDTV like this and not get a Blu-Ray player or a Playstation 3 (comes with Blu-Ray). If your budget doesn’t allow you to get one yet, DVD is still outstanding with this TV, but you should get Blu-Ray eventually.

If you’re not planning to get a home theater sound system just yet, the built-in sound of the Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 1080p LCD HDTV is good enough. It’s better than most LCD TVs out there.

To go along with the beautiful picture that the Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 1080p LCD HDTV is capable of producing, the unit itself is beautiful with the floating glass frame. You can also change the bezel to a color that matches your home more if you want to. If you like the piano black finish of the V3000 or XBR3, you can buy the XBR5 model which exactly the same set as the XBR4 except for the piano black finish.

If you want the best looking set out there and price doesn’t matter, the Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 1080p LCD HDTV is the one to buy. You won’t regret it because this is as good as it gets for now. Amazon has the best prices around and if they lower the price in 30 days after your purchase, you can contact them and they’ll refund the difference. The Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 1080p LCD HDTV is pricey, but that’s because the quality is incomparable.
